CIELAP’s Partnering for Sustainability Conferences

These pages offer success stories, partnership tips, and reflections from presenters at CIELAP's Partnering for Sustainability Conferences, held in 2002, 2004 and 2005. We hope these insights help you in your partnership ventures. Please contact CIELAP if you are interested in information about our next Partnering for Sustainability Conference. We'd also like to thank the Suncor Energy Foundation for their support, which has enabled us compile this information.

CIELAP began discussing the need for cross-sector partnerships in 2001 in its paper Sustainable Development in Canada: A New Federal Plan. This report highlighted that the power, resources, and expertise to act on sustainability problems were increasingly distributed among different sectors of society and that there was a need for greater cross-sector discussion and idea sharing about sustainable development. To respond to this need CIELAP has held three conferences – in 2002, 2004 and 2005 – to bring together key decision and policy makers from government, business, and civil society to discuss innovative ways that these sectors could work together to advance sustainability initiatives in Canada.
