Canadian Institute for Environmental Law and Policy (CIELAP) announces ‘Partnering for Sustainability Conference’ and 35th Anniversary celebration
August 08, 2005

Anne Mitchell, Executive Director of CIELAP, announced today that the organization’s third Partnering for Sustainability Conference will be held on October 27 and 28 at the King Edward Hotel, Toronto. The conference will be held in conjunction with CIELAP’s 35th Anniversary celebration.

“This is a unique opportunity for government representatives, community groups, NGO’s, the private sector and faith groups to come together to showcase their partnerships and to share ways of addressing some of the sustainability challenges we all face,” said Mitchell. “Following the success of our first two conferences, we understand the need for partnerships and the growing desire for organizations to develop innovative solutions that illustrate Canada’s progress towards sustainable practices.”

Confirmed speakers for the event include Gro Harlem Brundtland, former Director General of the World Health Organization and former Prime Minister of Norway; Glen Murray, Chair of the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy(NRTEE); and David Batstone, journalist, author of ‘Saving the Corporate Soul’ and a founding editor of Business 2.0 magazine.

The theme for this year’s conference is ‘Working Towards Sustainable Urban Communities: Real People, Real Issues, Real Solutions…the Power of Partnerships’.

Panel discussions and workshops within the conference range from a Government Panel on the Role of Partnerships in Building Sustainable Communities, to Sustainability within the Energy Sector, to Waste and Water Management, to Communications, Marketing and Education for Sustainability. Other elements are still being confirmed. More information on these events can be found at www.cielap.org/savethedate.php.
